Since its foundation in 1865, HSBC has helped serve the needs of its clients in a changing world. It has financed economic growth, fostered international trade and overcome events such as economic crises. We recognise our wider commitments to the communities in which we operate and understand that economic growth must also be sustainable.

Today our sustainability approach focuses on three main areas: sustainable finance; sustainable supply chains; and employability and financial capability. In each of these areas we have begun to take genuine strides forward; setting out a series of commitments to contribute to the global transition to a low-carbon economy, whilst pledging long-term support to help people access education and training so they can acquire the skills they need to succeed in today’s workplace.

The AIFC Green Finance Centre was created on June 1, 2018 with the aim of developing and promoting green finance in Kazakhstan and the Central Asian region. The Centre provides initial assistance to potential issuers, investors and market players on preparations for the issuance of green bonds on the AIFC Exchange (Astana International Exchange).

The main activities of the Centre are:

  • conducting research in green finance;

  • supporting issuance of green bonds;

  • MRV (measuring, reporting and verification);

  • providing external reviews for green bonds;

  • conducting workshops and presentations for stakeholders.

JSC “Entrepreneurship Development Fund “Damu” aimed at reducing the risks of investments in renewable energy sources issued green bonds on AIX in local currency in August 2020. This was the first listing of green bonds in Kazakhstan.

AIFC Green Finance Centre provided full support of the project and an external review in the form of Second Party Opinion which is based on the assessment of the alignment of Issuer’s Green Bond Framework with the AIX Green Bonds Rules and ICMA (International Capital Market Association) Green Bond Principles.
